hi,
the back panel of my cd-rom and the audio card have the female/male connectors for a digital audio cable in addition to the analog cable that is already installed and, as you know, is to listen CDs. What is the digital cable doing exactly? is it convenient?
thanks

If you have a digital connector on the sound card and the cd or dvd and the card supports digital decoding .
It does just that. Transfers the audio signal from the drive to the card.
The card decodes it and sends it to the speaker.
I use the digital from the dvd and the analog from the cd to my sound card.
Combined with the 5+1 decoder built into the card I get great sound.

Too bad I don’t have much use for it.
Turning a computer system into a boom box or 19 inch tv is a Total waste.
But the 5+1 speakers make a real nice sound at boot-up. Thunder storm sound effect
