View Full Version : Video Editing
Hi all,
I'm going to start to get into some video editing and I'm hoping some of you can help me along with it. I would like to transfer all my home movie video's currently on VHS and put them on CD.
I have a "64MB DDR NVIDIA™ GeForce3 AGP Graphics with TV Out" and was wondering if I could do it with that....or do I need the ATI All In Wonder Card. I'll probaly be asking a lot of questions in the future on this subject.
Thanks for any help,
Mil
Video out is Not the problem.
What you need is Video IN.
To be able to get the tapes into the system and record them onto disks.
I don’t think the ATI has it (Video In)

To REALLY screw things UP, YOU NEED a COMPUTER !
You will probably need a TV capture card...they are separate cards that loop through your video card and give the needed inputs to "capture" video.
The all-in-wonder pro seems to have a TV input...it has a 125 channel tuner so I assume that there is a connector to be able to use it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

If you go for the "ATI Radeon" card make sure it is a VIVO card (video in - video out) comes with either 32 or 64MB memory) this is what I have installed. But you would be cheaper (a lot) going the road that MJC suggested and getting a TV card, just make sure it has Vid in & Vid Out

Thanks for all the reply's,
Would it be best to go out and buy just a TV Capture card as mjc mentions. Or should I stick with a card that has more options that come with it, ie: motion capture, analog input/output ports, video desktop, digital vcr, etc..... Since the GeForce 3 is not cheap I hate to pull it out and replace it with an ATI, so I been looking at the Personal Cinema (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=personalcinema) after reading the comparisons of this and the ATI it looks like they are very well matched.
If I did decide to go with the ATI card, could I use a PCI slot, and if I could use PCI am I wasting the use of my GeForce 3 in the AGP slot?
thanks for all the help,
Mil
If you get the capture card you will be adding the TV-in features that the GeForce doesn't have...where as with the ATI you'll be getting a whole new video card with everything. If you get the PCI card yes...but not suer of the availability of them and you'll also be able to setup a dual display system...

My ATI All-In-Wonder PRO AGP 8MB video card has an s video port and a cable TV hookup I have a VCR hooked up and use my PC as my bedroom TV also have my digital cable box hooked up to it. I can watch any of over 150 TV chanels or output from VCR and record any of it to my hard drive if I have enough space on the drive. Video files use a lot of hard drive space!

Thanks for all the responses, I think I'll end up going with the ATI All in Wonder Card just to make things less complicated for me. What mjc mentioned maybe the way for me to go, but I'm afraid I wouldn't find as much support. It's a bummer that I will have to hank out my GeForce3 Card, but I'll try to sell it on ebay. I looked into the Personal Cinema (http://www.extremetech.com/article/0,3396,s%253D1021%2526a%253D13108,00.asp) but there’s not offing the upgrade yet. Do anyone have experience with either Osprey Video (http://www.viewcast.com/products/osprey.html) or CinePlayer DVR (http://www.cinax.com/Products/winvcr.html). There seems to be more options then I thought but I'm not sure what is the best.
Again thanks for all the help,
Mil
Ok I'm feeling like a complete dummy right now. I'm trying to convert an AVI file to MPEG, is there anyway I can do this?
thanks for the response,
Mil
Well I been playing around with this and I made a short video clip using my PC Camera. I converted it from AVI to MPEG and put it on a disc, but it won't play on my DVD player that's hooked up to my TV. Is it suppose to be something besides MPEG for it to play?
thanks for the help
Mil,
Back to your original post,I've been waiting to put recordings from my digital video camera onto my pc since april. I have an elsa gladiac card and bought a seperate vivo module. But elsa doesn't seem to have a driver to support vi. I've contacted them on several times to no avail. Here's hoping.
