View Full Version : Controlling Fan uses
I seem to have a problem with my computer overheating on my laptop. (I cleaned the vents on it) but I still think there is a heating problem. is there a way to force the fan to be on more, or to control the speeds it runs at?
Some laptops have speed settings in the BIOS, some have OS based control software and some, just do whatever they do without any outside control...
I understand that, but I want to force my fan to be on more (in hopes of keeping my system cooler) is there a way to do that?

As mjc hinted you will need to find a software utility that monitors the temp and through which you can trigger the fan(s) to run faster (or continuously) when certain temperature levels are reached.
Example: I installed a small prog in my daughter's [old] Dell Latitude C600 called I8kfanGUI
http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html
This utility allows the cpu fan to increase in speed as the temp increases.
eg: at 50C fan is running at 55%, when temp goes through 62C fan speed increases to 75%, when temp goes through 72C fan speed increases to 100%. When the temps drop through the trigger points the fan speed steps down.
I hope this helps
Cheers
