I hope I'm posting this in the right place, my apologizes if I'm not. I was wondering if someone could do some home networking with three or more computers if all the computers were using different NIC's. Or do they all need to be the same?

Yes, all can be different.
It is concidered technicaly correct to build with all like parts but not necessary.
