Mouse Problems in Windows

Every time i try to start Windows Xp it loads fine but then the mouse and keyboard do not work at all ive tried USB and PS/2 mice and keyboards but nothing is working this problem just happened out of the blue after restarting my computer one day and i havent been able to fix it since the mouse and keyboard dont even work at all if i load in safe mode any suggestions?

Do they work if you load something like Knoppix 5.1.1 (http://iso.linuxquestions.org/knoppix/knoppix-5.1.1/), or Ubuntu 7.10 (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloading?release=desktop-newest&arch=i386&mirror=http%3A%2F%2Fubuntu.virginmedia.com%2Frelea ses%2F&debug=%5B%27country_US%27%2C+%27country_UK%27%2C+% 27continent_NA%27%5D&download-button=) from a "live" CD?

If they do, there's nothing wring with the hardware.
