Hi Can anyone help? I have a P4 PC with a 40GB UDMA hard disk. I want to fit another 40GB hard disk that is EIDE. Is this the same as UDMA? Would an EIDE disk work with a UDMA disk or in place of a UDMA disk. The PC DOES NOT have a SCSI system. Is EIDE and UDMA the same?
Many thanks
Mike

Hello Mikii and welcome to the Guide,
IDE,or more realisticly known as ATA, is the type of connection used in todays computers for various devices. The most common are Harddrives and CD ROMs.
DMA and UDMA are how the information travels thru the system buses.
So, Yes you can have an ATA/EIDE(connection) UDMA(information path) harddrive.
Try a search on the main page of the PC Guide for all 3 of these things and I bet you get a bit of an education. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif Maybe more than you want http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
