A KVM won't allow that distance
Most are limited to a matter of 12 to 15 feet

KVM = Keyboard,Vidio,Monitor switch

The only way I know of you could do it is to setup a second system and or dumb terminal and operate it as a remote

The Dumb Terminal requires special hardware and software

The limits imposed are due to things like signal strength, crosstalk and such. The power from a computer to a monitor is not very high, so the distance that it can travel through a wire to get to the monitor is not very great before the signal quality has degraded enough to make the picture not worth looking at. The same is true for input devices and such, except there is even less power.

Also longer cable have more crosstalk, that is the signal on one wire interfering with the signal on the other wires in the cable. With the low power levels of the signals for the input devices, crosstalk becomes a major problem after a few feet. Yes, a properly shielded/made cable reduces it, but after about 15 feet no amount of shielding is going to help all that much.

So, back to what Rick was saying...no, not easily or very cheaply.

At 15 feet the cable alone is going to start at about $40
Plus it requires 2 cable and the switch

1 set of cables from the switch to system and 1 set to the remote

The current switches

NOTE that these are designed to connect 1 keybord,video to 2 computers
Not 2 keyboard to one computer

Plus you would have to run up/down the stairs to select the keyboard you want to use

Get a second computer
It's faster easier and a lot less hassles
