I was just wondering if it will make a good monitor
are there any disadvantages to using this tv to a proper pc monitor?

Thanks all

I wanted to do something similar. If The TV does not come with VGA in, or your computer does not have an S-Video out (either or) then it can be cheaper to get a new monitor. I looked into using a TV as a monitor a couple years ago, I never really persued it, but at first glance, it wasn't cheap.

no disadvantages of using a TV as a monitor, but you need S-Video out [computer] OR VGA in [TV] to get it to work.

IF you have a high quality Graphics card, S-Video out SHOULD be standard

I am going to be using 2 nvidia 8800 GTS 512MB in sli mode
or one 9800 GX2

that should have some form of TV out (HDMI, S-Video, component, etc)

EDIT: the 8800GT WILL HAVE TV OUT
and i am 99% sure the 9800GX2 will also.
