A lab instructor of mine recently got a new phone and has a problem with it. Since there isn't a location here that fits, I guess this place is good as any to start the thread. She got a Blackberry Pearl phone and is unable to put the phone on vibrate (no ringer) with the phone clearly on Vibrate, it still plays the ring tone. Any one know how to remedy the problem?

i would think it is defective,

or perhaps the "speaker" is on...

I do not have access to the phone at the moment. having speaker phone on doesn't change anything with the ringtone any other time. could the pearl be set differently, and you have to have the phone on vibrate, and the ringer volume down all the way?

There are multiple settings on the phone. You might have it generally on vibrate but there could be settings for e-mail, text messages, voice mail etc. It might be ringtone then vibrate. You need yo look at the setup carefully.

Classic pretty much stated this, but I wanted to add a little bit to it. My phone has several profiles named things such as "normal" "silent" "meeting" etc. One would assume that "silent" has the ringer off, and by default it did. When messing with the settings I found out that every profile, including "silent" has a setting for ringer volume. I had to return mine to that so that it would quit embarassing me in meetings.

Also, don't forget that many phones can be set to allow individual contacts to have their own ringtones...
