I have a panasonic plasma TV connected via dvi/hdmi to my PC. ATI graphics, Radeon X800 GTO vid card. XP home. Settings are 1280 x 720, 32 bit, 60 hz. The plasma is a clone of the main display, & everything that appears on the main appears on the plasma, EXCEPT videos played in a number of applications, including Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, Nero Showtime, Real Player & Zoom. In each case, the player itself (the application window, menu bars, surrounding desktop, etc.) appears fine, but the VIDEO area appears as a dark purple area. It doesn't matter what the file is (avi, vob, wmv, etc.), and in each case, the video is displayed perfectly on the main monitor. And what's really odd, these very same files DO appear on the plasma's screen when played with Nero Home or VLC media player! This is generally not a big issue; I just use one of the players that works, but more and more streaming video is becoming available online where I can't seem to select one of the players that "works", like one at http://www.woodmagazine.com/wood/story.jsp?storyid=/templatedata/wood/story/data/1158958222015.xml which I would like to view. Typically, the site defaults to Windows Media Player, either through Firefox or IE. In the case of the link above, the file extension is WMV, and even though I have VLC set as the default pllayer for wmv's, the site will only open Windows Media Player. Is there a way I can get these files to show up when played in any player, or that I can get sites like this one to use one of the players that DOES work?
Thanks,
Fred
