Okay, I'm new at this. I want to build a computer that could play a game like Crysis.
1. Would all of these parts work together?
2. Do I have everything I would need?
3. Is this a good deal?c

total: $822.50
I want to try to keep the cost below $900, if that's possible. any help is greatly appreciated!

one moment. i am checking the links

EDIT: FINISHED

a few things:
1) Cheap power supply= BAD: get a name-brand one to avoid some hassle later. Thermaltake, Zantec, Antec, Coolermaster, OCZ are all good companies
2) Why get a CPU fan? You only really need a better fan if your going to overclock, the stock HSF units are fine
3)CPU is not the "best", but it is pretty good...

other than the above, looks good

okay, how's this?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153029
and maybe this for the cpu
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017
so now it's $908.50 (without the cpu fan)
is that a good deal?

both are Very Good

but, the motherboard you choose is not the best motherboard for the price (and i am not even sure it will support the Core 2 Quad), i would downgrade the CPU back to a Core 2 Dual.

You will be very happy with the build.

Curiosity, what OS are you getting?

Vista home premium 64 bit
what would be a good motherboard that supports core 2 quad? how can i tell?

That is a very good MOBO and will do well with a C2Q

would you recommend a sound card?

Ajmukon
03-30-2008, 04:19 PM
yes, but for your budget, i would not say "get one".

sound cards can get expensive quickly.

and you really do not need one for gaming...

unless you are going FULL graphics max out everything. but in order to do that, i would recommend a budget of $2000

You current setup is very good for a budget gamer.

okay, that's good. that's exactly what i am trying to do.
Thanks a lot for your guys's help!

oh, and I have another question. should I go with ATI or nvidia?

Ajmukon

Nvidia is "better" right now.
get a 8800GT 512 or 9600

Legolewinsky

Okay, I'll stay with the 8800 GT 512

I also have another question. I want to be able to use wi-fi. Do i have to buy a separate computer part to do that? I already have a router, and it's set up.

Assuming your router is of the wireless type. Yes, you need a Wi-Fi adapter. You can get PCI or USB interfaces.

For gaming though, I would stick with being hardwired, but, I may be corrected on that.

for gaming have hard wire all the way.

and how far away will you be from the router?

:p i tried wireless at one stage it halved my download speeds and trebled my ping

also if you have to go with wireless make sure you have a good signal when connected 85% +

Unfortunately, I am pretty far away from the router (about 30 feet), but I have a wire that is around 30 feet long, so I will probably be able to wire it, but it will be cutting it pretty close.

I think 50ft is the max cable length for CAT5 cable.

George Hallam

Just googled it and the MAX seems to be 100m (328ft)
