Hi,
It's time to get a new gaming rig. I'm an American and have lived in the UAE for the past 9 years. Today I went to Dubai to the computer center (a collection of stores). Regardless of what lots of people think via the media, Dubai and the UAE is still very backwards, they've got lots of new buildings, but that's about it. Virtually every commodity is monopolized and this is true for pc components...there's one or two importers and that's it. The long and short of it is that prices are really out of whack and there's slim pickings when it comes to variety.
I just went through Newegg and compared prices. The prices here are consistently about 33% higher than the US. Plus, you just can't get really good Ram here. They do have some Corsair, but in this part of the world, counterfeits are everywhere, especially in stuff like this.
If I were buying one or two components, I'd eat the difference, but I'm looking to put together an entire system.
The system I spec'ed out today came to $1,600 and that's with no-name ram. The same thing would cost about $1,100 in the US.
So, does anyone know of any companies that ship overseas that are also reputable? Preferably companies that you may have done business with yourself?
I know the risks involved plus the hassle of returning defective parts, but it's worth investigating.
Thanks,
Nat
