I have an Hp pc i got from a friend and it need a new fan (the small one) so i got one form my old dell pc and when i put it in a and start the pc up a message pops up saying
"CPU fan Error Shutting down in 5....4.....3......2.....1"
Then it shuts down
Any ONE with ideas?
The fan you replaced the dead one with probably doesn't have a speed sensor on it. See if you can get enough time to enter the BIOS and disable the fan monitoring...if not, you will need to find a fan with the sensor.

Fans are cheap...I would suggest replacing the fan with one that has an RPM sensor, as mjc pointed out, that this one is apparently lacking. IMHO the safety feature is worth having...

Has anyone considered the idea that the cpu fan is installed incorrectly or that it isn't the correct fan?
There isn't really a 'correct' fan...except if it has an RPM sensor and the BIOS recognizes that sensor and approves of its speed. There is no great mystery to CPU fans...a fan without a sensor will trigger all sorts of strange behavior, including shutdowns. And fans without sensors can be used if your shut off the BIOS level monitoring...
