View Full Version : bios video card problem help plz !!!
i bought a new ram card to add ram memory then my friend told me i could add video memory by going to bios and change it to a bigger value like i have 64 then change it to 128 so i did like this but then i went to the display and it still 64 mb
help plz
thx in advance
Well, your friend is only partially correct...some on-board video solutions do allow you to set the amount of system RAM they will use, by doing the BIOs setting. Add in video cards do not allow the amount of memory to be changed.
There is, also, an AGP Aperture setting, if your motherboard uses AGP graphics, but it doesn't change the actual amount of memory the card has...
this is my computer description:
Intel Pentium 4 2.4GHz (512KB), 256MB (i added another 256MB), 40GB 7200RPM IDE HDD, PCI Desktop (4x4), Intel Extreme Graphics, 48x CD-ROM, Intel 10/100 Ethernet, Windows XP Professional
plz tell me if my computer allows this
thx to reply
help plz i sent my pc info thx to reply
Make/model would be a bit more helpful...
this is what i found about the video card : 15-pin VGA output on planar,
Uses Intel Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT)
Your computer is an HP, Dell, Compaq or something like that...that is what I need. Or the make/model of your motherboard.
A number of onboard video solutions will have an absolute upper limit on how much RAM they will use...it could be your's is just 64 MB.
my computer is an ibm and my computer ibms model is 8305-42F

and there is the processor type: Intel(R) 82845G Graphics Controller
I'm having a hard time finding detailed specs, but it is an IBM machine that is designed for an office environment, so it is very likely that the amount of shared video memory is purposefully low and that 64MB is going to be the max, no matter what you do to it.
That said, 512 MB of RAM for it is kind of low, considering that XP will have a 'sweet spot' at about 1 GB.
If it is otherwise working correctly with the new RAM, then consider that the video memory is at its max and there isn't anything else you can do, except put in an AGP video card, which are getting harder to find, but are still available in 128 up to 512 MB flavors...
then i cant do anything to make it better bcause i looked inside the box and i realize that the video card is not removable i mean its part of the motherboard
understand?
thx to reply
You should have an open AGP slot. By putting a video card in that slot, it should disable the onboard video...
thx 4 your help mjc i really aprecieted
