None of the usual programs are as effective anymore... The malware writers are writing specifically to get around these programs and changing their tactics so quickly that it is hard for any of the big companies to keep up... Careful surfing habits and good resident protection are the most important preventatives at this point, but even that is no guarantee...
However, I do NOT recommend Ad-Aware as a first line defense (or at all)... Lavasoft seems to be falling apart (again) and I don't trust the program...
One thing I have noticed, lately, is that if your chosen AV (etc) doesn't catch the malware when it is first deposited on your hard drive, the chances are that your installed programs won't ever catch it...many of the current nasties tend to mask themselves from or disable already installed antimalware apps.

It is really getting scary out there anymore.I guess everyone needs
to be even more careful. It really upsets me that people write this
nasty stuff the internet is a great place for information and fun.
Well as you said even more caution has to be taken.I just can't
see a end to all the nasty stuff. You all take care out there.

Well, times change. Spybot was good before...now its probably time to give way to better competition and alternatives

Spybot is still a good program and I still recommend it... However, malware is much more complex and it is too much for any single program to handle...
That said, your signature appears to be an advertisement and I have removed the link as a result... If your intentions are not to SPAM this forum, I suggest you ask before replacing it... If your intentions are to SPAM us, replace it and we will oblige you with a ban... If you look around a bit, you will see that we do not tolerate SPAM...

I've been hearing a lot about StopBadWare.org lately. And although it's not really related to Spybot. I was just wondering if StopBadware.org is really allowed to shut down a site based on it's findings that malware might be lurking around.
Nah, maybe ill just start a new thread about it.
