I'd like to install win98se in a removable hd so that I can dual boot with Win XP. Problem is, I installed XP on an ntfs partition. The entire c: is ntfs. So I get this error from the win98 installation saying that I've got to create a dos partition. How do I do this when my c: is 100% ntfs? What would happen if I upgraded to dynamic disk and made the partition there? Would the upgrade mess up my currently installed programs? Asides from giving one the ability to manipulate partitions on the fly, what is dynamic disk?

Dynamic Disk is a way to fool your OS ( this case NT kernel builds ) into thinking it has a larger non-restrictive hardrive volume. No primary or extended partitions to limit it.
Win9X OS's don't support this so you'd be wasting your time trying it. And it's non-reversable, which means you'd have to remove ( and lose ) all your data and start over again with a fresh install in order for Win9X OS's to access the actual physical drives again.
The advantages to using a Dynamic Disk set is striping, or mirroring, kinda like a having a software RAID setup on that partition .
The problem you're running into is because you're using NTFS and the Win9X OS's don't recognize that type of file system.
This is an interesting problem you have here; honestly i don't know a simple answer for you except to say that you may have to disconnect the XP drive when you wish to use the Win98 drive.
Maybe someone else has encountered this particular situation and can give you some better direction.

Thanks iisbob. I thought I was in serious trouble, not being able to put in 98 at all. I almost forgot that I can go to bios and make it boot from my removable and not see the non removable. It's gonna be annoying as hell, but better than nothing.
You may be able to do it with a third party boot loader....not sure but give BootitNG (http://www.bootitng.com/) a look, since you don't need to resize the XP partition but be able to boot to the removaeable it might work...(it does have a thirty day trial).
