I did a search on Google for "services and controller app" (that's part of the error message I'm receiving) and was directed to this forum. I was directed to this thread. (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=38540) It seems to closely match my problem, but since I know that each computer and problem is unique, I thought I'd like to start at the beginning.
I got infected when downloading some game, and my TrendMicroPCcillin started going crazy. I had never paid for a subscription from it, so it lapsed on updates after 3 months after getting the computer. I bought McAfee Total Protection and installed it, removed the PCcillin, ran through the scans with McAfee, and removed what it said was quarantined / bad. I'm still getting the red circle / white cross icon in my systray popping up a warning every few seconds that I'm infected with spyware, I sometimes get the error message about a process with the services and controller app with the "Send/Don't Send" dialogue box, and after clicking them, get the 60 second countdown box that says "The system process 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\services.exe' terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819. The system will now shut down and restart." Before I start messing around deeper with things I don't know about, I thought I would implore the senior members here for a little help. Thank you very much!
(HiJackThis log will follow very shortly)

Please download SmitfraudFix (http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip) (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

I just want to note that when I turned on the computer this morning, I didn't get the usual popups in my systray stating that my computer is infected, but just in case, I have pasted the SmitFraudFix log here.

Please do this:
It would be a good idea to print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Restart your computer
Just before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key;
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.
Reboot and post that log and a fresh HJT log in a Reply...

How is the system running????

Haven't tried yet. With my school, work, and parenting schedule, I won't have time to really try my computer out and test the system under normal conditions until Monday (I've been posting from my g/f's cpu). So it will be a few days before I get back to you on this, so don't think that it's working fine and I've just moved on. Thanks for your help, and I'm assuming from you only asking me how the system's working that there wasn't anything of note in the most recent logs I posted?

A lot of this stuff hides from the logs so the behavior of the system tells me where to look deeper.... I'll await your more thorough test.

Okay, so, update time. The internet seems have some times when it's really slow, and then at times like now, it's just fine. I'm not entirely convinced that it's related to the problem from above, but I thought I'd mention it. It seems that the first few times that I booted up after running and posting the logs that everything was fine, but every maybe once out of every 2 boot-ups, I still got the services and controller app warning and the 60 second restart countdown. Last night, my computer had a blue screen of death, the first since I started working on the problem. I've restarted the system a couple of times since then, but I'm still getting the warning. As it is right now, I have the warning window open and just moved to the bottom of the screen so that I can still get some work done.

Quick update again. So even though I left the warnign open, I just got greeted with the shutdown in 60 seconds box.

You will need to run Combofix next. Please read the instructions here (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix) and post back with:
The combofix log.
A new HJT Log.
A description of how the system is running.

Another quick update: when I restarted from the time listed above, I did not get the services and controller app warning that time. It just kept working fine. However, what happens sometimes when using the internet from that computer is, when I click on the systray icon for the wireless network manager, it tells me that internal configuration is inconsistent and I have to restart the cpu to get it to work. For some reason, my internet just started going super slow, and it's close to midnight, so unless whoever's network that was started downloading something just now, I don't think that the internet should be going that slow, especially since it isn't from my girlfriend's Mac, where I am currently posting this from. I just shut my cpu down to give it some rest.
edit: didn't notice the above post. I'll get to that in the next day or 2. Thanks a lot!
