broad question, but its windows or the operating system that failed you. Typical windows, if it happens here or there i would not worry bout it , if it happens alott then you might have a virus, or other hardware problem. What does the error message say anyway.

Dudes !! heres a note

im not sure if it is still the same now but i do think so ! when you go on a chat room thats been started by another user They have adminastration rights (or something simalar) this means when you get out of hand they will KICK you off by sending a command to your pc threw the yahoo service.. not sure what codes there maybe but i do know of one that kick you off yahoo and the net and then shuts down the PC !! how do i know ?? it happened to me so after 3 months of looking i found this happens !!

anyway this might be the prob ?? ( dont quote me on that LOL)

If you had 70 chat windows open, I think just about any machine would "wimp" out... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Mr_Galactica: Sorry but the only thing the moderators on Yahoo or any other chat program/website can do is kick you out of the room. They CANNOT send specific commands to your computer, knock you off the Internet, shut down your computer or otherwise indulge in malicious behaviour that may damage your computer.

I have beem moderator in a number of chatrooms on Powwow, Mplayer, IRC and a couple of others, the only command options available are to kick a user out of the room, restrict voice or typing, ban the user from the room and report the user to the system administratoers. That's it. Nothing there allows them to do any more than is necessary to maintain the desired atmosphere in the chatroom. I currently am moderator (called "Op") in the PC Guide's IRC channel, I can kick or ban users, but that's it. Nothing I do will kick them off the Internet, shut down their computers etc. That's a myth.

A few years ago before win98 was released applications were available that would allow users to "nuke" other users, similar to a DOS (denial of service) attack used against web servers. These were almost never used by moderators, they didn't want their chatrooms to acquire bad reputations. When win 98 was released that vulnerability was fixed, "nuking" became a thing of the past.

The BSOD described here can be caused by several things, but cannot be blamed on the users in control of the chatrooms. Bad memory, low system resources, driver errors, and programs trying to grab memory already allocated to other programs can cause this, among other things...but not other people.

I think pete is right but i was on Cnn chat one time got kiked off and all they can do is make the screen that you chat on go blank.they can't do any thing to your puter if they got caught doing any thing like that it would be considered Hacking which you know IS against the law. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think I might have a solution. If you get the BSOD again write down exactly what is written in that error en then go to www.google.com (http://www.google.com) or something en search on the error number or other parts of it. Or you can also go look on the msdn site and look in the Microsoft Knowledge base, most of the time they have a solution for those things.
I am sure this will help you. If it didn't then let me know.

There are boot codes that can be used in Yahoo chat one of the most famous is playing several sounds at the same time by typing <snd=yahoo> or any other sound native to Yahoo Chat 15-20 times in a row change the font color to white tack it on to the end of a post and post it to the chat room everyone that has sounds turned on will get kicked out of the room or get a BSOD and have to reboot. There are programs that are designed just to kick chatters out of the room you can even choose who to kick out. I don't know if any of these still work. There also programs that allow people to be in chat rooms and not be on the chatters list and be in several rooms at the same time. the list goes on and on they can even send viruses thru IMs.

Alright who messed it up this time!
