I have an Asus a7m266 mtherboard. There are two connectors labeled NB_fan and CHA_fan. I am a lost as to what these terms mean. I guessed that I could connect dditional case fans to these connectors. My question is what do these terms mean and, do they perform the same function?

Thanks

Larry

Chassis fan can be hook up to any fan on the motherboard, case fan, cpu fan, extra pwr supply fan.Unlesss the fan is 7000 rpm , then youll want to get a splitter and hook it up to a big molex connector.
As for dp fan , dont know exactly what that one is , as long as its 3 pins it can be connecting to any fan you put on there.

According to page 39 of the manual (ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socka/amd760/a7m266/a7m266-102.pdf) it is the chipset fan connector. I am guessing the NB is an attempt to avoid confusion with CPU & CHA. More than likely that connector is already in use by the small fan over the 761 chipset.

The NB fan plugin is for the North Bridge chip set HSF. The CHA plugin is for the CHAssis fan PSU or case fan.
As long as you have your processor HSF pluged into the right plugin you can plug any aditional fans into these outlets. If your processor HSF is not pluged inot the right outlet will not boot because your chip set monitors the fan speed and if it senses 0 rpms it says there is no HSF and won't boot without one. I think about half the time when a fresh built PC won't even POST this is a likely problem

If you have any other terms you don't understand you can always look at this site to find them: www.whatis.com (http://www.whatis.com)
