hello. i am using youtube flv to avi video converter to convert youtube videos to avi format. is it possible to convert the flv videos to higher quality because the avi video's resolution is same as the video quality on youtube.

thanks.

Nope...

Most video formats involve dome sort of compression and most codecs are lossy. In other words, each conversion is a permanent loss of some video information to get it to fit that format. That means there is an overall loss of quality that 'up converting' just makes worse.

Down converting is easy...especially if you are changing things like resolution (making it smaller). Any quality loss due to compression is made up for in the fact that it is being resized to a smaller screen. But taking the clip that has had all that information already removed and trying to go back just isn't going to happen, because the 'extra' data has been not just removed, but totally eliminated from the new file.

Youtube and such sites often, for the sake of bandwidth, use files that are as small as possible (read, lowest quality they can get a with)...so even trying to convert them to a different file format is likely to show off the original 'quality' in an extremely poor way.
