I was trying to install a ATI video card (AGP) on a computer but no matter what I do I keep getting the message on my monitor "no signal". I have onboard video but I've taken all the necessary steps in the BIOS. On thing I did notice..... there's a place to plug a wire on the video card, but I have no wire. What would that be for and where would the other end plug into coming off of the video card? Could this be the reason for it not being recognized by the computer?

thanks

The card should have a video output just like the one that is on the mainboard for the onboard video. When using a card, you plug the monitor into the one for the card or you will get no video. The connector should be at the mounting plate where the card meets the rear of the case.

Sorry I have no picture of the video card, but the plug'in I'm talking about is on the video card and looks a bit like a wire that would plug into the back of a CD drive or on the motherboard somewhere.

How about a model number?

It’s a ATI Radeon (AGP) model number X1650XT, 512mb, IceTurbo, GDDR.

I Googled it and there's plenty of info:

...I keep getting the message on my monitor "no signal".
Is there a signal source selector on the monitor for analog / digital? If so select it to the required source.

Found a picture. The plug-in for the wire I'm talking about plugs in where the red arrow points, but I don't know where the other in goes.

hooo boy!

Okay, it looks like you need to plug in your pci-e power cable. There should be one running off your power supply. If not, you need to upgrade your power supply!

The connector in question should have six pins. It is either black or white, depending on your power supply manufacturer.

The video card SHOULD have included a y-shaped cable that allows you to convert 2 molex connectors into a single pci express video connector.

The reason you have no video is that your video card has no power.
Also make sure you re-connect your monitor's signal cable to the back of the video card and NOT to the integrated video output where it was previously connected.

Oops, my mistake... he said it's a AGP card.

That card needs a P6 molex connector, not a pcie power connector.
P6 Molex connectors look like this:

Ok I put a better picture up on the previous link. The P6 Molex connector looks to big, maybe it's not though. If the power supply doesn’t have a connection for the video card plug in, what exactly would I ask for at the dealers store?

That board connector does not look like Molex to me.

anyone have any ideas as to what connection it is? See my previous link for the picture.

Maybe have a look at the crossfire connections?

it is a smaller molex connector. (a 4 pin i think)

your PSU should have one installed.
if not, there are adapters.

Ajmukon to the rescue once again! I've never seen a power connector like that on a video card before.

there are several different sizes, (3 i think) and i am not 100% sure which one it is, and, just by looking at the picture, i can't be 100% sure that is what it is... to begin with....

but, that connector is usually reserved for a Floppy drive....
why a GPU is using it....
