I'm looking at getting a wireless router to run my pc and laptop and after reading many many reviews on multiple sites I'm not sure what to do. I'm familiar with some of the better brands but none really set the world on fire for ease and reliabilty from what I've read. I guess I'm looking at either a Linksys, Netgear or Dlink. I'll be mostly surfing from laptop and streaming music to my stereo. as well as doing some gaming. None of my stuff is high end and I'm on a budget like most folks so cost is an issue with me. I'm sure this horse has been beat many times and I appreciate your time replying to this thread. If you have an opinion on a router please be specific as to its pros and cons.
Thanks

I am running a WRT54G Linksys router, it has been quite reliable after a firmware update and subsequent Reset and configuration.
I would be purchasing a WRT54GL if I were replacing it today as the amount of memory for the router is greater than the amount in the G. The GL is also more amenable to running third party firmware like Sveasoft for greater wireless range and control, this is Open Source firmware so the cost is only your time.

Linksys is the way to go, but netgear and dlink are decent budget products. Unfortunately, you get what you pay for and may have issues. It doesn't particularly matter what kind of router you get, since the only thing that really matters for what you'll be doing is that your internet connection is strong. The wireless signal is more of a yes/no situation when it comes to internet use. Either you have a signal or you don't. Strength and speed of the wireless signal has to do with your internal network.
Wireless generally sucks anyway.

You can get the Linksys WRT54G for $40 at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124010). I use a Linksys WRT54GS and I am happy with its performance but if I had to replace it I would probably buy a WRT300N for $99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124068) but the price is still high, cost more then twice as much as a WRT54G.
