Hi.

I just bought a 22" viewsonic lcd. i was using a geforce 7300gt ddr3 with a 17" lcd. i was satisfied with the card coz i worklu mainly with photoshop, flash and other graphic software. but when i connected the 22 lcd it seems that the card has weakened. when i drag a picture in photoshop the images flickers.

i wanted to know whether there is a relationship between screen resolution and vga power.

thanks

Hi.
i wanted to know whether there is a relationship between screen resolution and vga power.

What exactly do you mean?

If the card supports the monitors native resolution then there shouldn't be a problem...

What are the specs for the monitor? (look for native resolution, refresh rate, etc)

Matching the resolution/refresh is a bit trickier on an LCD than on a CRT.

Perhaps I'm wrong, but I have always believed that...

The more detailed an image is on screen [the greater the precision of color and space = more colors and greater screen area]...
Then the harder the image processor has to work if the image is changing with time; so greater processor power is needed.
Like in a video or if the image is moving.
Say if you move a window and you have Windows configured to show intermediate images at different points during the move.

native resolution is 1680 X 1050 and my vga card can support up to 2560 X 1600. my system is a core 2 duo e6650 with 2gb ram. well think there is no problem with the system.

to be more precise, say u drag an image in photoshop from one corner to another it should move swiftly without any flickering or distortion. well i get this problem when i do this action of dragging an image from place to another.

i know this problem occurs when the vga card i quite slow.

"i know this problem occurs when the vga card is quite slow"
Exactly!
Or the memory available for storing the image info isn't great enough.
So is the image processor and the memory storage both on the VGA card or what?

well, i think since i have vista ultimate installed in my PC the aero style is taking too much of the RAM and the VGA.

Can you temporarily disable aero?

Well, the problem is not that the monitor is larger...it is Vista. Vista does not do 2d...everything in Vista is 3d. Everything. Even if you disable Aero (if you are even allowed to run Aero), you will still have problems with that card, because Vista is doing all graphics calls in 3d (DX10) then, emulating 2d out that or emulating DX9 for your card...if you are running Vista you need a DX10 video or you will suffer those kind of problems. Search the forums...Rick and Saphelline have many comments on this particular issue.

Thanks guys. Maybe its time to go and look around for a 8000 series. Damn technology, always keeps your pocket hot!!!

Using a DX9 card in Vista runs all the graphics through several layers of emulation, before hitting the screen...and no matter how powerful your hardware is, it will mess things up. (There is a small part of me that believes MS did this on purpose to make all those with older hardware want to upgrade it, but for many it backfired on MS and those folks are sticking with XP or some are moving to something else...Macs or Linux).

Have you tried to change from Allowing Windows to manage your Program Memory or have Windows functioning best? Increasing your Virtual Memory might help and don't let Windows manage it, you set maximum you want it managed at, note to set programs more efficient, you can download TweakUIToy from Microsoft for free to get more memory out of your system turn off thumbnails so explorer will not generate thumbnails for each time a refresh happens a thumbnail set changes and for lots of files in explorer to have to show you thumbnails consumes lots of memory. Also try to upgrade your memory cards to max out your system , turn off or disable logo 'Welcome Screen' at bootup, update to SP1 if you haven't. Another consideration is that maybe Photoshop is not installed properly and/or Windows did not allow a file to be installed and the program is having to use one of Windows already present files that was open so it couldn't be changed. Happens a lot as when a reboot is required following removal of a old copy and a new version is installed and the user does not reboot and runs the program as if it would work just as it did and this fouls up the removal of the older files marked for deletion off the HD and the new file cannot install so the running file runs and Windows forgets because of not rebooting. Had you bought a Dell 22 inch you would have had auto setup which eliminates flicker and it aligns the LCD on every restart, you can also sit this LCD next to a Back-UPS XPS 1300 and have no interference at all, a cathode monitor had the shakes next to this box but the Gateway 2000 19 inch monitors do not have the problem. The Dell monitor is nice, see Walmart sometime for one not a ViewSonic.
