Hey guys, I've been looking around the forum and I like it so I registered and was hoping to get a question answered.

I got an idea to try and use a laptop as a PC monitor, so I wouldn't have to buy an actual monitor after building my soon-to-be Desktop. Is there any branded cable or feasible method of going about this? Thanks!

((Highest hopes would be to get one of those laptops that have the swivel monitors and get my custom built shoebox Desktop to plug into that and head to LAN parties O_o))

Again, like the forums and I'll put up my own technical knowledge where needed.

No sir. Unless you somehow managed to take apart the laptop and use the monitors input cable on your computer, which i believe is unfeasible. You cannot use the VGA port on the back of the laptop because it is solely an output port and not an input port.

If you don't mind things running a little slow, you could do a remote connection to the desktop from the laptop, but that still isn't what it sounds like what you want.

theoretically, yes, there is.

get a nice Video card for your desktop, use the S-Video out, and get a card with S-Video in for the laptop.

What you need is a PCMI cardbus with S-Video in. (try "TV Tuners"- they will usually have a S-Video connection)

you will basically play games on a TV screen(say AUX-1)

Is there a specific reason(other then to re-use the laptop, that is), why you don't just buy a LCD panel screen that plugs directly into your desktop?
