Newbie in another thread wishes to know if Win98 (first edition), if upgraded from MS update site, will be equivalent to Win98se.
As 98se requires considerable updates anyhow, is it worthwhile for newbie to purchase 98se ?
Definitive answer anyone?
Win98 and all the updates almost gets you there, but not quite...not really sure of which parts aren't updated but it doesn't quite make it (after a little searching the one item that is not available for downlad is ICS --Internet Connection Sharing)...I would say get 98se.

I have Windows 98 first edition and have done all the critical updates and service packs and no, it is not equivalent to Windows 98 SE.
Some features are not included like ICS. And a "few" bugs are not fixed.
Worthwhile to to upgrade from 98 1st edition to SE? No comment. That is more of a personal choice. Myself, I'm able to do what I need to do and I'm happy with the 1st edition.
If I were to upgrade, I will wait 6 months and then get Windows XP. Right now, not a lot of companies have drivers for devices yet.
