I am in the process of ordering parts for my pc build.

The pc itself is going to be located immediately under my office, in my un-finished basement.

My build:
Case:Antec 4480 w/stock 380W Power + 2 side fans
MOBO: Gigabyte AMD GA-MA78GM-S2H AM2
CPU: AMD 4850e (at last !!)
HDD: WD Caviar SE16 640GB
CPU cooler: Ninja Mini
Media: Samsung SH-S203N
OS: Vista Home Premium 64 OEM
RAM: Crucial Ballistic 4GB

I am intending to access its functions via:

DVI cable - question: would an HDMI cable work exactly the same (HDMI to DVI) ?

I intended to connect wirelessly to the Mouse and Keyboard. What is the best way to do this. Do I need to buy a bluetooth adaptor of some kind ? Would it be a good idea to run a long USB cable up ?

I already use a Belkin Wireless Hub, but that is in the cupboard out of sight connecting all my other devices: external drives, PDA, Printer, External DVD. I don't really want to buy a second Belkin Hub (I don't even know if that is possible).

So, how do I arrange the mouse and keyboard, please ?

If I were looking for a wireless mosue and keyboard, so that I could access my remote pc (located in my unfinished basement), would it be a better idea to go for a bluetooth or a wifi setup.

Also, would it be a good idea to run a USB extension cable up from the basement, and put a wireless adaptor on the end, to improve reception, or is that a waste of time ?

Thanks.

how far away id the PC from where you will be sitting (from the post it sounds like the PC is under you ) if so the range of wireless keyboard and nice is about 5m and that can be pushing it...

So, how do I arrange the mouse and keyboard, please

usually simply install the software install the wireless adapter and done

As i can see from your MOBO you have a

1 x D-SUB (think that what is called)
1 x DVI
1 x HDMI

i would advise using the older D-SUB due to it having more support from smaller monitors (which are usually in offices)

yes, it will be directly under me. Is there any advantage of one over the other : Bluetooth vs. WiFi for this application

I've no personal experience with bluetooth...I've a USB connected logitech wireless keyboard and mouse that I've used for a few years and absolutely love. I found this on Newegg where there are many reviews. It's a bit of a read, but it might provide some insight...

I would tend to think that having the PC and wireless receiver (for keyboard/mouse) below the floor would be a problem. If you are going to be running any cable from the basement to the office I would add at least one USB extension and keep the receiver near you.

Why not have the box next to you?

The reason for this, is actaully a lot simpler than you would have thought. It goes like this;

I gotta a smallish, but neat office, nicely decorated, with noothing on the floor apart from table legs and chair legs.
I gotta a whole lot of windows (hexagonal room facing the sun).
I gotta an unfinished, ugly basement, with more space than some smaller sized aircraft hangers.
I gotta a drill.
I got fish-wire.
I am gonna have a nice, quiet, uncluttered office, with no heat problems. A happy wife (and happy life).

Quite pleased with myself.

And now you ask, and I am glad you did, (although I am starting to sound rather smug), my PVR and Reciever also sits in the basement, feeding my bedroom and living room and kitchen, controlled by remote IR sensors. Oh and one of my Sonos players also sits down there controling my downstair music (though it is a bit of a pity coz' the Sonos is so pretty).

I love it.
