Ok. I have no idea. How does telnet work. I mean, how do you use it?

Think of it as one of the very first ISM programs. Go to this site; Telnet tutorial (http://www.cyberspace.org/telnet.html) for a little background info.

If you have W95 or later you have the telnet client installed-used to be the only way to " surf " the net way back when. mastterof fact you can still log onto some simply text file sites usually run by your local library.

Jes, telnet is a piece of software that allows you to remotely connect to another computer on the internet. When you have connected to this computer at the other end you are almost always asked for a username and password. If you have a privileged enough account it's no different than physically being at the machine. The machine that you are telneting to must have the server-end software a.k.a Daemon(If you don't know what client/server software is just post a reply in this thread and myself or another fine patron of this board will answer what this is for you).

I have only used Windows 9x and have no desire to use another version because <paranoid>I'm afraid that with each new Windows release my monitor becomes that much closer to becoming a telescreen</paranoid> which means I don't know if a telnet server comes stock with "the biz" distributions of Windows. Here is a nice freeware program for Windows though that'll allow you to experiment with telnet.http://deru.tucows.com/preview/195627.html

If you get bored with this you can always get a free shell account, if you're not already provided one by your isp, and this will allow you to mess with telnet and a unix environment. Happy Hacking. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
