Hope you could help me with this, somebody suggested that I use my old psu to power my pc fans, so I could add more fans to cool my pc, Is this possible? has anyone done this?
Yes it is
BUT
You need to check the power supply and see if it needs to have a power good signal
You can do this by using a jumper wire ( IF Needed)
Sorry I don't recall the correct wire to jumper at the moment.
( Been up to many hours)
Also you need to vent the second Power supply
I did this with an old server tower setup for redundant power supplies
So I have no problem with venting/air flow
Everything considered
If you are buying a new power supply to do this with.
Just find and buy a new larger power supply and replace the existing one ..
Turn off two at every shut down can be a pain

I agree with Rick, why use a separate PSU for such a lowly duty?
Just powering the fans!? It's not like case fans use a ton of power! They're like 1.6W a piece! Even a cr@ppy 400W bundled PSU should be able to handle 10 case fans in addition to the system's load!
