Hi

I have just built my new ssytem (see my sig) and I seem to be having trouble running games in the VISTA 64bit environment. The games I got with my graphic card work ok when loaded into XP64 bit.

What games work in Vista 64bit, ANY!!

-Crysis
-Assassins creed

but most newer game will run fine in Vista 64bit
-COD 4
-Gears of war
-World in conflict
-Unreal tournament 3
-C&C 3
-Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Im not going to go through every game but i think you get the picture :p

I am running Vista HP 64bit and have had no problem running any of my games.

COD4
Crysis
Gears of War
Oblivion
Company of Heroes
Steam games - HL2 Ep 1 and 2 etc.

That's what I have loaded on it so far.

Is vista up to date. Are your chipset drivers and video drivers up to date, not the ones on the CD? Making sure you have the vista 64bit version drivers?

Ok thanks for that guys. i will double check my drivers are uptodate by going to the relevant sites and downloading the latest chipsets for my mobo and graphic card. Im sure I have dome the graphic card driver though.

Whats the best way to check the chipset drivers installed; like to see if there 64bit ones and versions etc etc??

Thanks again

Ok I have got the latest Vista 64bit chipset driver for my mobo. Is it best to uninstall the old chipset drivers or just go ahead and install them over the old ones?

Thanks

It's best to uninstall first, although I have often just installed over the old ones. But since you are having problems it would be a very good idea to uninstall first.

With video drivers you definitely want to uninstall first.

Also make sure you install any patches for your games before you even play them. Before I even put the disk in I usually go and look for any patches and have them ready to install right after the main game.

On a side not I am having problems with Crysis right now. For some reason it wants to lock up right after loading a save. If I go to an older save it is fine. Not sure what is causing it. Perhaps I will uninstall/reinstall the game to see if that helps.

Ok thanks again. Can you uninstall chipset rivers through the control panel way or do you have to dig deeper, im ok with the graphic card drivers.

I take it the chipset drivers are installed on the hard drive and not in the mobo BIOS etc etc, sorry for being thick here!!

Thanks

Look in the control panel for anything that says Intel. In mine the only thing I can find is the storage manager. Uninstall what you can, in safe mode preferably, then install over anything else.

You can go into device manager and look for anything Intel and uninstall that way, but I wouldn't worry about doing that unless you continue to have issues. Then it might be worth a try.

Make sure you have the latest drivers already downloaded and ready to install. It's best to install the mobo drivers first then the video drivers.

With AMD nVidia chipsets all the drivers were under one nVidia listing in the control panel and you could choose which ones you wanted to change, so it was much easier to find them.
