First Merry Xmas to all! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif I recently reinstalled win98 on a system. The advanced power management in device manager was showing up as not working properly. I just left it at that and decided to wait and see what happened. Well, the computer is constantly crashing now, with various error messages. Suddenly there is no sound, although, the sound card is installed. Could this power management thing be causing the conflict? The computer shuts down okay, although it is not set up to suspend. Any help would be aprecciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you had a bad install, make sure the cd is not scratch up or finger prints on the cd. I would install again, you need api , its crucial for the computer to work. Why did you format in the first place?

I would suggest that you first check your bios settings for power management
(Enabled)
Second make sure you have the correct driver support. (Device manager Look for ! Next to devices) and or download updated set from manufacturer.

And after getting the above accomplished you might go to My Computer/Control Panel/Power Management and set your choices there.

Luck.
