On the satellite i get capped 100MB after that that the server dropped my speeds down to modem speed downloads. Do cable or dsl do this procedure?
In satellite terms its called FAP, Fair Access Policy.
ALso on a side note, i usually come in to the pcguide, and click active posts, and every day its about 45 new posts, today it was 60. Where getting bigger and bigger.

I've heard about " capping ", but fortunately it hasn't occured to my @home provider to do so ( or if they are they've left it at above 1200k ).
Since i don't run a server, i'm not to concerned about it-you may want to talk to your ISP and see if ther is a way you can pay to have it lefted or increased.

verizon adsl does not have any Fair Access Policy, but some cable connections do... where if a bunch of your nieghboors are also online the banwidth is decreased by additional users online.
not with dsl, (Of course dsl [standard] is generally half the speed of cable)

Is it being Capped or Just more people using Road Runner.
I can’t say. But my connect speed and True download speed has dropped from 1400 to 500-800
With the AD blitz that Road Runner has going it may just be more people on line.
It does however maintain that speed regardless of the time or size of the D/L
A CD ISO file 640 meg or a 100K file I get the same transfer speed

I used to be on ATT@Home (cable) before AT&T went to their own system. Using dslreports.com test servers, my download rates would sometimes reach 2Mb/sec.
Now with attbi.com, I'm capped at 1.5Mb/s; it always tests out at about 1450Kb/s. No problem there, but I worry attbi.com will limit the amount of data I can download in a one-month period. (Right now, it's "all you can eat".)

With the crew around here I'm glad Earthlink/Covad dsl doesn't have caps

When in doubt search on Google
If PacBell (now SBC) tried that with me, I'd either find a DSL or Cable provider that didn't have "caps" or would switch back to cheaper dial up (UGH!). Since Southwest Bell Company (SBC) took over PacBell in my area, my ADSL service has been very erratic. Sometimes the server response is so poor it's virtually unusable and other times it's blazingly fast with virtually instantaneous response times. It always seems to slow down after midnight. Maybe they're doing filesaves or something but you'd think it would be fastest in the early morning hours because of less net traffic. I'm hoping it will get better (or at least back to what it was with PacBell) after the change over, otherwise I may consider switching to cable.

Just for info, I have SBC DSL, and live here in texas where it was first started, then astarted branching out nationwide.
When I first got the service, it seemed to almost stop in the afternoon around 3:00 to 3:30, but the rest of the time it was really fast. I complained about it every day for about a month, almost drove them crazy I guess, but I figure if enough people complain, they will eventually fix it.
Now it is working just fine, never get slowdowns at all, except for when MY comp decides to quit working right for whatever reason. I have had the service over a year now, it's the cheapest around here, and no reason to switch.
I do get a lot of e-mails from advertisers though (isn't that spam???!!) but i just keep replying with unsubscribe to them and they finally quit that too. That is something they need to put a stop too, hopefully soon. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
