I have some cheap corsair ram for my desktop 2 x 512 and I just ordered some gskill 2 x 1024. Do you think I should keep the cheap ram in the system also? I was thinking if I did keep it in to put it behind the gskill.

The memory will run at the speed of the slowest memory in the system, so it may not improve performance much, but depends on how you use your PC.

the g.skill will probably bottleneck you because it's just not very good memory, but that having been said, what are the bus speeds of the different types of memory you are using?

Give it a test drive with both installed.
it won't hurt.
You can always remove the old 2x512 later

With XP installed it will use all of the 3Gb and you should see a lot of improvement in performance

If the ram timing drops. Then Just remove the 512's and run it on the 2x1024
You will still get a sizable performance boost out of it

Is there a program I can get to monitor all that including my processor temps and fan rpms. I think one might of came with my motherboard software but I have to check. I just noticed last night I had the cpu fan hooked up to a case fan connection on the motherboard doh not sure how I messed that up. I guess it didnt hurt anything though cause its been running like that for 3 yrs haha. Im not a huge computer nut getting into over clocking and what not but I like to build them. I would like to learn some more though and maybe build a new system and overclock it.

Thanks guys

Another option is MBM5 ( Motherboard Monitor )
However it has not been updated in a few years

So if your system is newer than 2004
MBM5 may not detect all the system

"Motherboard Monitor (MBM) is a tool that will display information from the sensor chips on your motherboard in your Windows system tray."

Some good ram test and or stress test programs are
Memtest86+, Orthos, or PRIME95

yes, sensorsview wants you to buy it after 30 days... that's the only thing I don't like about it.
