I wanted to get one for my latest build (aftermarket product)... Im a poor college student and couldn't muster up the cash and I wasn't patient enough to wait. My Quad Core is currently idling anywhere from 36C to 40C. I want it lower. I currently have the stock intel heatsink. Can anybody make some recommendations? Im not looking to spend a ton cuz i also need a new hard drive :<!

My Q6600 usually runs at about the same temp. And performance and stability are fine. Under load I rarely see it go past 50C. These chips are rated I belive to function up to 100C without any problems.
If you really want it lower, I think your best bet is to go on newegg and check out the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro... it's cheap and it works.

Yep,
Unless you plan to overclock or just want to have something that runs quieter, there is no need to swap the CPU cooler.
Just make sure you clean it with canned air every once in awhile as dust will reduce the ability of the heat sink to dissapate heat.

I do plan on overclocking it. Once i learn the proper way to do so.
