I have a ThinkPad T60P laptop and I don't remember having this problem when I was using Windows 2000, but since I switched to Windows XP, it seems that when I unplug the power and switch to battery mode, my wireless network connection seem to lose connection briefly. Normally it's OK, but when I am connected to a VPN, I lose my VPN connection so I have to reconnect and it's getting very annoying.

I checked my wireless NIC properties and turned off the Power Save Mode in case it is causing the problem, but even with that turned off, it still happens. In Power Options from Control Panel, it doesn't have any special settings for the NIC, but I do have it set so that the listed devices never get turned off for running on battery.

Any ideas on what other settings that I need to modify so that switching to battery doesn't interrupt the wireless network connection?

Check the BIOS, especially if the wireless is built in...there may be a power save option, there too.

I checked the BIOS and didn't find anything related to power saving for NIC. There was one which sort of relates to it, but it's already set to what I think it should be set (something about performance and I have it set for the performance).

Yep, that was the one I was thinking about...performance is where it should be set.

Does the problem occur going the other way, too?

No, going from unplugged to plugged is fine. It's just going from plugged to unplugged is causing the problem... and the weird thing is that I started seeing this once I switched over to XP.. Win2K was working fine as far as I remember...
