I am planning to switch my account to roadruner and just wanted to varify a few things before I switched.

1. I am using windows XP Home Edition, the service will work right?
2. I believe I heard I don't need to install their software, I can just use windows connection wizard to setup the connection, is this correct?
3. If I want to sher the connection between 2 computers I will need a router, and NIC for the other computer?
4. The "minimum requirments" that time warner gives are really for the software to work well, and if I have a computer that is slower, but don't install their software it should work fine?

I have two computers:
1: P4 1.7Ghz
512 Mb RAM
Windows XP Home
NIC installed

2: P 133Mhz
80 Mb RAM
Windows 95
I will install a NIC

If I buy a router I will be able to share the connection using the one modem, and it will work on both computers, am I correct?

If anyone has anyexperience any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in andvance.

I can answer all But one of your Questions.
The answer to all are YES

The one I can not answer is the Old P133 system
The requirements for that system to work will be determined By the router.

One word of warning.
Set up the system ( Cable Modem and P4) before you add the Router
The account must be setup and the modem configured before you try to use it with the router.

You may be forced to install some of the RR software.
Unless it is already initialized and the account is activated with that modem
Once you have it installed and active you can remove the RR Medic software.

You don't need a router to install a small home network, just use a simple hub.
If you wish to share internet access between the two you'll have to enable internet connection sharing, and the PC connected to the 'net will have to have a second NIC card installed; one for the 'net-and one for your local network.

You don't need their software to connect to the net either, just your NetBIOS name ( the computer id they gave you upon setting up your service ) and their workgroup or domain name ( like i use @HOME-this is the workgroup ( network ) i'm assigned to ). For the internet connection sharing portion of your task , XP will walk you thru it with a wizard once you tell it to install ICS, it will act as a DHCP and automatically assign your other PC an ip address.
Be aware however that you'll have to have the main PC on all the time in order for your other PC to connect to the internet or to any resources you share.

Good Luck! and Enjoy!
