My computer will turn on but then monitor goes to sleep mode. The computer won't turn off so I have to unplug it. I have to plug it in and plug it back in a couple times before the monitor will come on.
The fans were turning on and off until I took the case off and vacuumed everything. The fans appear to be working fine now.
I will be working on my computer and then the screen will go blank. The computer will not turn off so I have to unplug it and go through the same scenario. HELP!!

This type of issue could be a number of things, from a dead monitor to a dead video card. Are you able to try another monitor and see what happens? Even a dead VGA cable could be the culprit.
It is also possible that this is a system issue, but I won't know for sure until we get some more info.
What comes up on the monitor when you do get a picture? Is windows loading?
When the computer boots, do you hear a "beep?"
What is the make/model of this computer? Does it have a dedicated video card or is it onboard?
If this is just a dead monitor, all you have to do is use a different one. From what you say I think the computer is still running even when the monitor goes out, so the pc itself I think is fine. If this doesn't work with another monitor, we'll have to figure out where to go from there.

Hi. I have a HP Pavillion a705w. My monitor and cable are brand new. I opened the computer case and cleaned it out. It had a little dust that may have been one of the issues.
I have the cpu under my desk and if it accidentally gets bumped, the computer shuts down. Then when I try to start it back up, the fans will go on and off. I will slightly move the cpu and when I start it up again, it starts fine. I'm thinking the connections on the back of the cpu are loose. Can they be tightened somehow?
Thanks in advance for your help.
