I have a dual core processor and I was told that I need 64bit XP for my computer to run normally. Is this true?
Having 64bit XP limits me to using certain programs. I would love to format to 32bit if possible.
Thanks in advance :D

Thanks, are there any precautions I should take before the install? Anything about 32bit that would be any different than 64bit?

No difference at all. Whoever told you that has no idea what they are talking about. ;) 64bit CPU's can run 32bit OS's with absolutely no problems.
Now you can't run a 64bit OS on a 32bit CPU. For obvious reasons.
I would stay away from XP64bit. It has been known to have many problems and largely lacking in driver support. I think it was kind of abandoned. When it comes to vista 64bit is preferred, although not necessary. But there are programs that won't run in vista regardless of 32bit or 64bit. If you ever decide to go with vista and have some older programs make sure you check compatibility before taking the plunge.
