Just a little confused as to which method is best to use to create a boot disk.

One method I have read says to go the EBD folder in windows and copy all of that to a floppy disk.

Another method says that I go to a command prompt and type in
"sys a:" which copies the 3 core MS-DOS files across to my disk.
These files being msdos.sys, io.sys, drvspace.bin and command.com.

Which is the best method to use and why??

Why doesn't the EBD folder contain the FORMAT.EXE program. Surely that would be needed wouldn't it???

P.S -> what is the FILES=...... line for in the config.sys file do??

Thanks every1

If you create a boot disk using the Files in the EBD folder.
You are creating and emergence boot disk with Full cd-rom support for most drives.

When you boot up using this disk it will create a ram drive and copy a number of the utilities to that ram drive. Among them is format

The Sys a: will give you a DOS boot disk with No support for anything but Dos.
No Memory manager or driver support. For anything but the minimum system .

The sys disk is best used to flash the bios.(Also A good Start up disk for DOS games)
The Emergence disk is best used for maintenance where you want or need full cd-rom support

In the days of DOS
Files=nnn
Was used to tell DOS how many files it could have open
By Default this number was small normal use was files=20
For some larger programs it was increased for example autocad required 35 to 50
