I mentioned this problem in the multimedia section, but since it's memory related, I will try again here.

I downloaded memtest (http://www.memtest.org/) to investigate whether I have bad memory, but for some reason I cannot get this to run on my machine. I burned the ISO to a CD, but when I try to boot from this, I get the following and it just hangs:

Boot from CD :
1. FD 1.44MB System Type-(00)

Loading................

I know the CD is good because I can boot from it on my laptop just fine. Any ideas? Thanks!

You definitely have some kind of hardware issue. Try it with one stick. If it doesn't work try it with the other. If it works with one or the other than you have found the problem.

What kind of problems are you having?

Just took a look at your other thread and I have to agree with MJC and Heartborne, the video card being bad is most likely the problem. Send it in for replacement. ;)

But before sending it in try reseating the video card. An improperly seated card can definitely cause this symptom.

It's worth trying a stick of known good ram. Testing the power supply with a multimeter or PSU tester. Unhook all peripherals. Trying a different monitor.

Hey jlreich, thanks for the suggestions! I really do hope the issue is with my video card, as that's the easiest to replace. I took your advice and tried reseating it, but that had no effect. A coworker is going to let me borrow an old video card to try out, so hopefully once I get that I can resolve this issue once and for all. In the meantime I'm just trying to rule out any other possibilities. I've never tested my power supply, so I think I'll look into doing that. Thanks!
