Have you run dxdiag? What were the actual results?

What about video drivers? What graphics is being used in that machine and what are its specs?

Make sure you have latest video drivers. Or if the latest aren't working try the next oldest. Sometimes the latest are not always the best. Usually, but not always.

Make sure the game is fully updated. This would be my guess on the most likely cause.

What graphics is being used in that machine and what are its specs?
Good point. COD2 isn't too hungry of a game and should be playable on at least low settings on most systems, but if it is an older laptop there could be issues.

What OS? XP, Vista? There is a known compatibility issue with COD2 and vista (was warned by vista when I installed it), although it plays just fine on my vista HP64bit aside from an occasional crash. If you are running vista try running it in compatibility mode. It may not help but it's worth a shot.

This (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1863805&moid=1209152&rpn=PPM40U&BV_SessionID=@@@@0186794439.1213306999@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccchadeegejgedicgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false) is the one you want. And it is newer than the one you have installed.

Also you should make sure windows is updated. You don't need to worry about SP3, but I would make sure it up to date to that point.

My guess is that you have an old, crap laptop and it has no dedicated video and therefore can't run games properly at all.

If you still insist on trying, uninstall the game. Go to www.microsoftupdate.com and update windows this way. Update the chipset drivers for your laptop.

Reinstall the game.

If it still doesn't work, accept the fact that your laptop is not powerful enough to run this game.
