I have searched these and various forums, searching for an answer but to no avail, nothing matched my situation.

I have a Prescott Pentium 4 2.4 GHz machine running Windows XP Professional SP2.

The computer has a problem staying active in a current Windows session. I can't start my computer other then by hard reset. Applying the front power button no longer performs. After performing a hard reset, it boots into Windows, but only for 5 minutes. After which it shuts off and the front power led remains blinking.

Troubleshoot help and advice is most appreciated.

How old is the system?

Have you changed anything in it lately?

What are the rest of your system specs?

And o ye welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif ;)

I can't say for certain with your system (make and model please?), but often a blinking power button means a bad power supply. Assuming the system is not in standby.

Could also be a failsafe for the computer? Maybe the heatsink fan has gone and it's shutting off and not letting a normal start happen to protect itself? I've run across a few computers that will do that.
Maybe HDD going or gone bad? Power supply is very likely too as jl has suggested.
Just some thoughts.

I have looked into your suggestions by testing the following components:

Power Supply
Hard Drive
Memory
CPU

All seem to be functioning normally.

I am now experiencing BOIS Beep Error codes at beginning of POST that
were not autible or visual in eariler testing.

I am experiencing two short beeps at the start of POST, produced by the
system speaker.

Some of you asked for the system specs, and I appologize for not displaying
them sooner I did not have access.

Found this http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp when I was looking around.
It may help some.
2 short beeps seems to be related to parity circuit failure it says.
