Welcome V and V. A parallel answer: "Pendulums and their 'escape mechanisms' are the macroscopic mechanical switches that turn on and off a few times (more or less) a second, to create your clock experience". http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

It is not clear from your question whether it is going to be the electonic equivalent of the pendulum or the escape mechanism though; or both together even - else there wouldn't be much of an experience!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Also you could try How Stuff Works (http://www.howstuffworks.com/) and Google (http://www.google.com/). http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/redface.gif

P.S. Sorry I just saw Google already mentioned. But in fact it is worth repeating so I'll leave it there.

Ok, OK-i wasn't trying to be mean-but this was a legit homework question, and we aren't supposed to answer it for them?!

Remember, i only advocated not answering if it was a legit homework question-they need to study themselves, and you've got to admit this was about as basic as they come.

LOL iisbob. Hope that it wasn't me that answered the question; I sure didn't intend to. Just meant to stimulate a bit of lateral thinking!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif I'm not sure I know the right answer neways - coz the question could have been worded better; IMHO of course. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Who would go for a "bitty", "circuitry", "crystally" or "silicy" answer or a combination of them all or even something else!!! hiredgoonz's reply might be too simple and mjc could be close to the mark at the nano level.
But don't post back till after Tuesday!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif Hope V and V lets us know what got top marks!!

Hired was probably the closest without really giving the answer away. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

iisbob I thought your answer was admirable and professorial as you provided direction. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

PaulK not quite sure what Poe had to do with the answer, but I was intrigued enough that my thoughts actually were vertical. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

mjc really knew better! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

I was absolutely no help at all, but figured with the clue Hired gave that viirusandvelvet had more than likely solved the inquiry. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
