mpeg question

How come when I try to play certain mpegs I can't move the slider thingy (the one that allows you to fast forward/rewind) around? I click, drag, release, then the thing snaps back to where it was again. How can I remedy this?

Not really sure why that happens but I have noticed that WMP is much better at moving around than the Playa
