Hi. I just got a new MacBook Pro from work. We will be getting XP SP2 installed as well for work as we are tech support for an entire XP school district rolling out over 300 MacBook Pros for teachers this coming school year and moving mac in the future.

Anyways, these laptops are "ours" as in we get to take them home to use them and all the software on them (free FinalCut Pro BABY). Back to my question, I have 3 legal copies of XP SP1 upgrade, and my boss said it would be ok for me to install my own personal copy of XP on my laptop so I can install games and such for at home. Buuut, Macs can only use BootCamp with SP2 on the install disc, and once in Windows setup the eject button doesn't work for me to insert my Win98 disc to continue with my upgrade disc.
My coworker has a legal unused copy of XP SP2 full install both in 32 and 64 bit, but doesn't want me using his license. Would it be possible for me to install using his disc, insert his key during setup, and then later after installation change the key to mine?

Thanks

You may find that if you just use your own key that it will work. Otherwise use any valid key to install but either change it prior to activation with magic jelly bean (http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/) (there's an option in the tools menu to change the registry) or during activation as part of the activation process. I cant remember if you can do this as an option when doing activation via the internet or whether you would need to phone the MS number and speak to a rep.

Awesome! Thanks Paul! Being a work laptop, especially for a school district, I need to make sure I'm legal on it before going ahead. Our department's motto seems to be "it's easier to beg for forgiveness than ask permission", but in some cases that just doesn't work.
