Lag time at startup

Hello, what might be the cause of a 70 sec lag time from the time you see the Windows XP logo until the time it boots?

there are many reason causing this
first you may need to verify the process that running during start up.
if possible use a tool name autorun to stop some unneccesary process to run during startup.

secondly you may run defragment tools to defrag the system partition (C:)

some times heavy load anti virus software also will cause this.

finally try to look for some freeware boster software to boot up the pc and
disable some of the service that you might think it is unneccessary.

Thanks, I do defrag on a regular basis and I have tried eliminating the uneeded programs that I recognize in the start up. I'll give the other suggestions a shot.
