Hey, folks. My laptop (http://www.popvoucher.co.uk/cheap-packard-bell-easynote-laptop_lid-ompcmmca.html) has something wrong. but I dont konw how to deal with.
System Specs:
Hp a220n Pavillion Desktop
OS: Windows XP Home Edition (SP2)
I fear I have corrupted the registry on my machine due to the fact that I had run a registry scan and was unable to boot the computer the next day. Upon booting, the system went to the Chkdsk function. After Chkdsk, I restarted the machine and it froze during XP boot.
The Hp has two partitions on its hard drive (one being an OEM version of Windows XP). I used system restore from the BIOS screen to start the re-installation of the operating system to the primary partition. Everything goes well with the file copying process, but when the installation screen indicates that music should be audible, my speakers do not produce sound. At the final installation window, the computer hangs and will not continue.
I have utilized my Hp Recovery Tools CD to attempt restoration of the system by running the fixboot utility.
In addition, using the same CD I tried restoring the system to an earlier date by copying registry files from the rp*\snapshot directory to C:\windows\system32\config\system
After doing this, the system seemed to get further along in the boot process. However, I receive an error concerning an improper password from an lsass.exe error and the system goes into a cycle of boot--error--boot--error.
I am currently running the system with Linux/Mandriva from a bootable CD (speakers work fine) and all data on the main hard drive seems to be intact. Any direction would be sincerely appreciated.
