Laptop memory upgrade dual channel HP memory slots 2 capability for 4g/
Vista Home OS // 32 bit .. question it is known that the os will only recognize 3g or maybe a little more/ nevertheless the BIOs will recognize the full 4g upgrade/ as it stands the extra memory from 3g to 4g is used for addressing/from the OS / so rather than try the go around scenario to get the OS to recognize the 4g/ would it make any difference for the using efficiency of applications and dual channel?

If you have 3GB in there already that's enough for most people. If you only had 2GB I would go ahead and get 4GB since ram is so cheap, or if you are trying to game on the laptop, or running some ram hungry programs. Then it might help to get the extra GB in there.

32 bit OS have a limit of 4 GB because they are 32 bit...that is it, no more numbers available. Windows (various flavors) 32 bit have memory limits of somewhere between 2.5 and 4 GB because the way the memory controller handles it. Things like graphics cards, virtual memory, etc can possibly have some effect on what Windows 'sees'/reports but basically, over 2 GBs on a 32 bit Windows...be happy with what it says, it isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Yes you are right for the difference of lag between the limit of 2.8 up to 3.8 is really not even notice. But with Vista any flavor , requires all the memory you can get>> I notice the big difference in upgrading from 256 or 512 when you go into 1g or above. And I really think Vista is not the answer for laptops.
But whom am I to query I know so very little >>
Thank you all for your support.
