well I suppose we all know how to Block Sender in Outlook Express, and even set some rules regarding reactions to iuncoming mails but what else can one do??

If you really want to STOP someone from emailing you anymore.

short of doing something *not too nice* back to the offending party.

hi sea!

It doesn't seem you can do much else.

Write an email to them and tell them to STOP IT!
put Remove or Unsubscribe in the subject line. Maybe it will be picked up automatically by their mail servers and the whole process will be automatic and you won't get any more emails.

Try using Outlook for more features

well, I have been in contact with most of the offending parties ISP's, they were cooperative and helpfull (once I got past the automated bs)

I have found out who the person is that was doing this, and created a RULE in Outlook Express that automatically FORWARDS ALL spamm mail back to this person that started it all.

so the more they send me, the more they get.

Sea,

Good idea......now if we all could find the originator then maybe spam would be a thing of the past. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

I just paid a visit to fastmail.fm, and opened an email acct there.

They have the best feature i have ever seen - a 'bounce' button..

when you look over your inbox and see mail that's obviously spam, just press the bounce button. the mail is deleted from your inbox and a message sent back to whence it came, as if you were not found on the email server. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif

You still have to deal with it manually, but a smile comes across my face each time I bounce one of these back...

I thought it was best to never reply to spam so that way they don't know it's an active or legitemite address. There are a places to report spammers, don't have the link handy but it shouldn't be to hard to find. Plenty of hits on a quick Google search - I'm not sure how effective these services are but at least it's a start.

Gallaeglagh-

I didn't respond directly to any of the spam, from reading the email HEADERS I was able to find the "real" address (where people are who can answer) from which it was sent to me.

Then from them, and from other data from the Headers I was able to find who was doing this.

from there it was easy to create a RULE in Outlook Express whereby ANY spam mail would automatically be forwarded to them. I also sent the person that was doing it an email explaining that everytime I was to get a spam mail that he would get it too.

He of course was surprised that I had found out who he was, and he didn't know that one could create all types of Rules in OE.

spam has stopped.

get it now??

edit: thank you Gollum- I thought it was kinda slick too

Hey Sea,
That is pretty slick. I don't use Outlook at this time but will be going to a more "Technical" type service soon, and will remember this.
I have had this account on AOL for a couple years now and the only regular mailings either my wife or myself receive is stuff we sign up for.
I have seen several comments here to NEVER respond to spam. I don't agree. In the past, I have sent "Remove me from your list" requests and never receive after that.

I have 2 other names on my account less then a year old that are now being bombarded with all kinds of http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif (hmmm, won't say it here). I have not responded to any of these, just delete, and they continue to pile up every day. I will now try the "Remove me from your list" thing and see what happens.

My biggest concern with the automatic forward trick is that something personel got picked up by this and sent to someone else. Most of the spam I see is not in the form of Forwards, but directly addressed to me. How would this trick distinguish between what you consider spam and what is really something you want?

O, I think I get it just right click the message/properties and there's the header info, but don't most of the spammers hide that info somehow?
