I am currently in the market for a new computer, and I need some advice, and hopefully you guys could give me a hand with this.


i am searching for a computer Solly for music production purposes, so this what I've had in mind as some specs.


I'm looking at the xps 630 by dell

with

Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)
4GB3 Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs
Hard Drive
750GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Sound Cards
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio(I don't about this soundacard, or just purchase an m-audio audiophile soundcard)

is this a good set up, or what? any suggestions would be great.

What's your budget? What software will you be using? Do you currently have a computer that you're using for music production? If so, do you find it to be slow in any way?

You'll want an M-Audio sound card no matter what, so add that into your budget. There is nothing else that can do a better job for the price. And don't let anyone tell you that a Sound Blaster Audigy or X-Fi will work just as well!!

oops, I will definitely be getting the M-audio sound card, and I guess I have around $2,000 as a budget. I am getting this set up, after a lot of searching I have asked around other forums, and this is my best bet as far as producing needs.
