Exception error found at start-up, Windows XP

Recently I've seen the following message at start-up: "The exception un-
known software exception (0x0eedfade) occurred in the application at
location 0x77e6d756". This window has been appearing at every instance
of start-up on windows xp.
1) What it implies?
2) " might have provoked it?
3) " should I do to remedy it?

Note: I've noticed that when I'm connected to the internet I'm sending
much more data than receiving even when I'm idle. I've used HiJackThis
but forgot what it does and how to use it. Does anybody knows & is willing
to help with this?

I've noticed a couple of hits on this error dealing BHOs (browser helper objects). So, yes there is a good chance it can be caused by an infection...

Update HijackThis and then run it...it will create a log, copy and paste that log into as many posts as it takes...

P.S. After posting the original message I investigated with the windows built-in troubleshooter & found out that the com3 maximum baud rate was at 9600, which I brought to 56+.

You have a couple of 'nasties'...so I'm going to have someone else look in on this.

After my last post I found out that I had SDFix and updated it & ran it. Things started to go better but now I've the emergence of a window saying that some kind of error occured and the system will shutdown in xx secs & that I should save/close any program that's running in order to minimize the risk of loosing data.
Could the original problem be related to this one and what advice can I have from you? Thanks...

Start a new thread in the App & Security section, include a fresh copy of HJT, if it will let you run it (try in Safe Mode, too).
